Masjid al-Nabawi (The Prophet’s Mosque) is one of the most sacred sites in Islam, located in the city of Medina, Saudi Arabia. It was originally built by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in 622 CE after his migration (Hijrah) from Mecca to Medina. The mosque holds immense spiritual and historical significance for Muslims worldwide.

1. The Green Dome: The mosque is home to the Prophet Muhammad’s tomb, marked by the iconic green dome, which has become a symbol of Masjid al-Nabawi. The tomb also houses the resting places of two of his closest companions, Caliph Abu Bakr and Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab.
2. The Rawdah: Known as Riyadh al-Jannah (Garden of Paradise), this area between the Prophet’s pulpit (minbar) and his tomb is considered one of the holiest spots in the mosque. Prayers offered here are believed to be part of Paradise.

3. Expansions: Over the centuries, the mosque has undergone numerous expansions and renovations. It is now a magnificent structure featuring modern architectural elements while preserving its historical essence. It can accommodate over a million worshippers during peak pilgrimage seasons.

4. Minarets and Courtyards: The mosque has ten majestic minarets and large open courtyards with retractable umbrellas to provide shade for worshippers.

5. Significance in Islam: Visiting Masjid al-Nabawi is a deeply spiritual experience for Muslims. While it is not obligatory as part of the Hajj pilgrimage, visiting Medina and praying in the mosque is highly recommended.

Masjid al-Nabawi is not only a place of worship but also a symbol of unity, peace, and devotion, drawing millions of pilgrims annually. Its serene atmosphere and historical importance make it a cherished destination for Muslims worldwide.
